We all tend to suffer with various aches and pains at some point for various reasons and sports massage can address this for you. What is sports massage you may be wondering? Well, contrary to what many may think, it’s not exclusively for people who take part in sports. This type of deep tissue massage works on addressing any pain and/or discomfort experienced throughout the soft tissues, muscles, tendons and ligaments of the body. This can be for a variety of reasons such as sporting injuries, postural problems leading to chronic pain and imbalances or from ongoing conditions such as arthritis.
Following a full assessment, we can ensure that your treatment will enable you to feel like you’re getting back to your normal self as quickly as possible by using a variety of manual, neuromuscular and stretching techniques. These techniques help in improving the quality of the soft tissues by increasing blood supply, releasing any tension, promoting the body’s own healing processes and helping to realign scar tissues.
For the sporty people amongst you, regular massage helps tremendously in helping to keep the soft tissues functioning well and to keep them strong. Little niggles can be addressed sooner and managed fully before things escalate and become bigger problems, thus reducing the chance of injuries (or the reoccurrence of old injuries). Remedial massage helps to support the healing process of the soft tissues following an injury or accident (whiplash, fracture, fall etc) or following a chronic build up of pain (neck, hips, shoulders, lower back pain etc). Addressing any imbalances which may be present will aid in allowing a greater range of movement and a release of tension leading to a better quality of life.
More often these days we are sitting for hours everyday be it studying, reading our smart phones/tablets etc or sitting at a desk. Our bodies aren’t really designed for this amount of sitting and as much as we’d like to think we’ll get up and move around more, typically we don’t. Postural issues start to creep in and this is where our bodies get clever, they compensate elsewhere for the areas which are weak. Initially this isn’t too much of a problem but, after a period of time, aches and niggles creep in and before we know it, we’re stuck in that hunched position and find it very difficult to get out of. Massage can be very beneficial in unwinding these postural anomalies and very often we find that where the problem originates is actually not where the pain manifests itself. By getting to the crux of the issue, we can introduce measures to help address the imbalances and return you to a better quality of life.
Once we have you back up and running, or maybe just walking, regular checks are advisable to ensure that everything is ticking over and still working well. Keeping an eye on things every few weeks will make sure old habits aren’t creeping in and pointing you back in the direction of square one!
